Apparently, Mike Needs It Explained…

I usually find it a big mistake to publically question the intelligence of strangers — mostly because you just can’t win.

Either you’re wrong and these are geniuses and are actually smarter than you, or you’re right and you shouldn’t make fun of retards. Which is bad, mkay?

However, in this case, I shall make an exception.

Dear Mike,

In regards to your comment attached to the blog post about t-shirts: First, let me offer you some advice. This would not be an ideal place to alert us that there may be something wrong with the RSS feed. Unless you really don’t know the difference between a t-shirt and an RSS feed. Or unless you were trying to make a blog Easter egg for us — in which case you were successful.

Second, when you are fortunate enough to have a techincal-support comment placed in a t-shirt post discovered by the website admin, it’s actually really helpful if you’re a little more specific than “fix the dam (sic) RSS feed.” As far as we know, the “dam” feed is fine. No one has complained but you, so assuming that we know what the symptoms are is like calling up a doctor and asking him/her to “fix the dam (sic) sick kid.” Are we talking cancer, or a cold?

Finally, if you are going to post such a cryptic comment in such a cryptic place, it would be reaaaaaallly helpful if you provide a real email address. That way, when I send you a reply that says, and I quote, “What’s wrong with the RSS feed?” it doesn’t come back as undeliverable.

If anyone else is having a problem with the RSS feed, please send an email to And try to be a little more specific than “dam RSS feed.”

I’m famous.
Any way I place it where someone will see it.
The “dam rss feed” is gamehounds podcast.
But it has been updating every time you post to the site.
At least I didn’t use my potty mouth in the post.
Thanks for the fame.
Good thing It’s not my real email.
Or you might have put it in this post.
Your right I might be a “retard” or smart enough to no how to put site posts in a site rss feed.
And not in the “dam rises feed”.

May 28th, 2008 at 11:56 am

And not in the “dam rss feed”.

May 28th, 2008 at 12:07 pm

Point. I’ll give you that you weren’t a potty mouth.

And I would never post an email in a post. It was the only way to get ahold of you.

Please email me directly at This is honestly the first I’ve heard a problem with the RSS feed. I’d like to find out which RSS feed isn’t working, the libsyn or the feedburner feed.

Also I want to find out what you’re using to download and what it’s doing? Is it playing fast? Is it just not connecting? Is it the embedded player?

The RSS feed is our lifeblood, and if there is anything wrong with it, I’d like to find out, but it’s hard since you seem to be the only person having a problem that has contacted me.

Like I said, please email me directly with your email address so we can suss this out. And of course I wouldn’t post it anywhere else!

Also, if anyone else is having problems with the RSS feed, let me know.

Look it says “dam podcast rss feed”
Not “dam rss feed” like in the post about me.
So who is the “retard”.
At least I can quote word for word.
So how much of what you post on the site.
Or say in the podcast is real?
If you remove words for my post.
Just to make me look like a “retard”
Good way to keep fans.
And are you saying down syndrome people are “retards”.
Thats not nice.

May 28th, 2008 at 12:14 pm

When you started the site.
And it was just a podcast.
This is the rss feed address.

And I have complained for months in other posts.

A better pic for me would be borat in the yellow girls swim suit.

Not the down syndrome superman pic.

Hey, I live to please.

You wish is granted.

Okay, well… since you’d rather sort this out in the comments section than doing it via email….

First, I see the rss feed for What problem are you having with it? Still not exactly getting a clear picture of what’s wrong with it.

Second, if you’re using an RSS reader (curious which one) have you considered using our main rss feed address? It may help.

Finally… and I don’t mean to insult here… but what part of “comments on random blog posts aren’t usually the best way to get technical support issues solved” didn’t you get?

Really, anyone who’s reading this, if there’s ever a technical support issue, don’t hesitate to email me at It goes directly to my personal email in-box.

I don’t bite. Really.

Well, mostly.

I have never had a problem with the RSS feed for this site and I have been a subscriber for some time now.

May 28th, 2008 at 2:10 pm

Better pic I thank you.
Insult me not others.
Felt like a bite.
IE feeds is what I use.
This feed updates every time the site gets an non podcast update.
It is the only rss feed that I a “retard” could find on the site.
Now that you have posted the new feed address.
I have subscribed to it.
Sorry that you felt insulting a listener in a blog post was the only way to answer the question.
Maybe a post to direct every listener to where the podcast feed was.
Would have been less of a “bite”.
I could go on.
But what is the point.
You will just “bite” in the next post.

May 28th, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Clever Doug
I dont want to get every update to the site.
I just want the podcasts.
That is the problem.

May 28th, 2008 at 2:46 pm

Okay, Mike.

Nothing I’ve written here or anywhere is meant as insulting. Maybe gentle jibes at you for not contacting us directly.

If you are at all concerned that you were insulted, it wasn’t meant to be an insult. Of course, if you didn’t want to be called out by me on the website, maybe you should have *sent me an email* and made this whole thing private.

By not emailing me, or posting with a real email address, you didn’t exactly leave me a lot of options to contact you. I’m not psychic. I can’t read minds, and I can’t find out what’s wrong if you don’t tell me or don’t give me any way of contacting you.

It’s pretty clear that, when someone says the RSS feed is broken, I jump. I jump high and I jump fast. It was your choice to make this a public discussion, not mine.

Ninety-nine percent of podcasters wouldn’t even bother to spend precious bandwidth and server space to get ahold of one listener with a technical issue… especially when clearly it wasn’t a problem with our site but where you were going.

But that’s the kind of people we are. We care about every single listener.

But beyond that fact, HAD you actually contacted us by any of the NUMEROUS GameHounds emails, or even the GameHounds Forums, you would have found out that there was a non-post RSS feed months ago. If you would have emailed us from the get-go, you never would have had this problem in the first place.

Bottom line is that we’re really people here, and you can always talk to us, send us email, post on our forums and we won’t flame you or spam you. We’re just a couple people with a podcast.

If you EVER want a new feature, have a complaint or have trouble with the feed or the posts, please ***drop us a line**** (ie: send us an EMAIL) rather than post a random comment. It gets to us much quicker and doesn’t mean we have to put every little part of your problem up on our website.

And that goes for everyone. I spend probably 3 to 4 hours a day answering emails, IMing, Skyping with and doing things for our listeners. I will short myself sleep and food to respond to you guys.

All you have to do is ask for help. Really.

I just test your RSS feed and it work fine. :-)

It could be that Mike might need to delete his RSS feed link on his browser and just alow his browser to make a new one.

I do find that I get the same problem with Firefox and my own RSS feed. It seems to not update the information on my feed.

There is nothing wrong with my feed; the trouble is with firefox. It will work OK for a while and then it stops. I just delete it from my bookmarks; click on the feed again and hay presto; the new information is in my RSS feed.

It’s just a thought.

Tip of the day: Ignore silly comments, don’t make them famous by dedicating a post about them.

May 29th, 2008 at 6:58 pm

GamerEdie for posting one more comment.

I did not want to be famous.
That was the whole point of me saying.
“I’m famous.”
I’m old.
Well I’m young like Edie and Hawkes are.
And don’t post in the forum for this reason.
I just want to be a fan and only listen.

However ignoring comments.
No matter how “silly” you might think they are.
Is not the right answer.
Because what is the point of comments then.
If you don’t care what anyone has to say.

The comments are the only way some of us can leave feedback.

As for the feed problem.
It has been fixed.
For me at least.

There are two feeds.
One is for the site every thing is added to it.

The other is for the podcast.
Only the podcast is added to that one.

I now have the podcast one.
Still cant find it on the site though.
Kind of silly that a “Gamehounds Podcast” see very top of the page.
Does not have a link to the rss feed for the podcast.
Seeing that is what the site was for when it started.

Now please let my 15 minute end so I can be a has been.

Just as an FYI:

The podcast-only feed is located on the front page, right side, under “Feed it.” Look for the orange square.
