If You Shop at Gamestop…

You know us. We love gaming. We love controversy, and we love great investigative journalism.

Get the three together, and you’ve hit a panty-dampening trifecta of awesome.

If you have ever reserved a game at Gamestop, if you are a “subscriber” to Game Informer magazine, or if you have ever purchased a “new” game from this Starbucks of game retailers, please, please, please take about an hour and a half of your time to check out the no-holds-barred, scathing exposé of everything wrong with Gamestop. This former Gamestop employee offers a complete rundown of the retarded inner workings of the company — from the probably-illegal way it treats and pays its employees to exactly how it rips-off customers with reserves, subscriptions, and used console and game sales.

The author, WhistleBlower Zero — who remains anonymous for obvious legal reasons — makes no bones that his style is more than a little familiar to fans of Yahtzee and Zero Punctuation. While certainly not nearly as good as our Aussie-Brit friend, its content more than makes up for it.

For the love of all that is good, take some time to check it out.

Yea, I watched these at work and was astound on what was exposed.

What sad enough is theres the loyal customers, and then corporate lawyers who are going to try to find him.

Im sorta loyal to mine. But my store bent over backwards and give me extra support on both trade ins and buying new/used games.

But still, Its made me think about purchasing games. I only buy past generation games used (like original xbox or gamecube)

So expect this little number to REALLY blow up on sites and other places. (keep up with updates!)

the sad irony is that, as terrible as GS is to its employees (and it is), massive portions of this guy’s video are false.

i hate saying this, because GS genuinely IS a horrible company to work for, but this guy clearly never worked above part-time or in any management, and must have been in some astonishingly shitty store. the policies he talks about, especially regarding trade-ins are nonexistent and he makes a lot of boneheaded assumptions.

let me say this as a lower-management grunt with two+ years experience at eight different stores; gamestop is a shitty, shitty company to work for, but not so bad to shop at. like any big-chain small-shop kind of store, any individual store is a reflection of how its primary manager runs it. there are shitty gamestops with shitty management, and I’ve seen great stores with great management.

gamestop’s problems are in treating their employees like shit (constant threats and looming accusations are not good motivators) and not reigning in BAD stores that DO give bad service and make up mythical policies. whistleblower doesn’t know what he’s talking about and is getting all kinds of cred for it.

wow george you obviously dont know s**t about jack if you truly believe in defending gamestop. and i have worked full time as an sga and i gotta tell you, the only thing that DIDNT happen to my store that ZERO said in the video was get robbed but the one down the street from us did.
