We Do NOT Endorse Prop. 8!!

In: Website by Edie Sellers

It’s come to our attention that a number of websites that use Google AdSense have found themselves host to Yes on Proposition 8 ads.

Just in case you’re living under a rock, Proposition 8 in California would overturn a California Supreme Court ruling that legalized marriage for same-sex couples in the state.

We at GameHounds make a point of not bringing politics into our podcasts as much as possible, mostly because we’re a gaming podcast, and we think that, unless politics directly involve gaming, you don’t need to hear about what bleeding-hearts liberal or right-wing nutjobs we are.

However, upon visiting our own site tonight, I discovered that we, too, have Yes on Prop. 8 ads on our site as well.

So for the record, GameHounds does not endorse Proposition 8. And since Google was so kind as to open the freakin’ door to questions about our politics, I’ll come clean for myself.

I will be voting against Proposition 8 tomorrow, as I find it to be tantamount to voting for bigots. In my view, a vote for Prop. 8 officially sanctions a second-class citizenship for a group of Americans — some of whom are my family, my friends and our listeners.

I have always believed that if two people love each other enough to want to become legally bound to each other — for better or for worse — that’s their right. Hell, if gay men and lesbian women want to be as miserable as we straight married folks are, more power to them!!

Pretty much, I say if it’s about more blow-jobs and cunnilingus for America, I’m all for it!!

But seriously folks, I do not want a gay marriage for myself (mostly because I am straight) but I’ll be damned if I am going to tell a loving and committed couple of guys or chicks they can’t because some nutbag doesn’t like the idea of two dudes having sex. If you don’t like it, don’t have one. If you don’t like the way it looks, don’t look. And if you don’t want your kids learning about it, then maybe you should grow up yourself because — SURPRISE — your kids already do!

In fact, the pro-8 Klansman have smeared this whole campaign with the most scurrilous bullshit lies — and made the effort to call our house at least four times today to tell us these lies — that even if those assholes were trying to pass a proposition for free tacos and teddy bears I would turn that shit down in a white-hot second.

So as much as we have made an effort to keep our personal politics out of this site, I’m sorry that Google AdSense has forced us to do so. In fact, I’m really pretty pissed about it. And if you find that my personal opinions, which I did not want to reveal in this level of detail, so odious that you can’t listen to GameHounds anymore, I understand and respect your decision.

In the meantime, please don’t forget to go vote tomorrow. It’s so desperately important that our voices are heard, no matter what we’re saying.

Wish I lived in Cali so I could help vote that ignorant horseshit down–especially since the church of my youth has contributed $20 million in support of the nonsense. No wonder I have such enmity for those bigoted hypocrites.

I think a simple “We don’t control ads on our site – they do not speak for us” would have been sufficient (but seeing as this is your site, and it’s not like I pay for it, ’tis up to you, of course.)

Also, I keep forgetting that not everyone has those handy ad-eliminating plugins like I do, which also eliminate the problem.

Also Also, I come here for gaming talk, not politics, so finding out that you and I are divergent in our politics is pretty immaterial (unless this place suddenly takes a sharp turn and is about the politics and not the gaming).

Gaming is my refuge from politics, because unlike politics, gaming has a 100% success rate in making me happy. Some people really enjoy a serious political argument – I am not one of those people.

I love you guys all the more because moments like this prove that gaming transcends all politics.

So thank you.

This will be the last time that I, hopefully, will ever have to be public about my thoughts about a particular proposition, measure or candidate.

And I hope you also appreciate that I spoke for myself, and not for Hawkes. If he wishes to offer an opinion on this issue, he’s welcome to. He’s even welcome to disagree with me. Just because I pay for the site doesn’t mean that I am Pax Romana on any subject.

And I was finally able to block the one pro-8 advertiser from my AdSense.

So, this hopefully ends the topic. Any future political talk will be nonpartisan and much funnier. Hopefully.
