In: Podcasts by Edie Sellers

Welcome to the first Humpdate of the new year.

Actually, this Humpdate is of many firsts: First with Commander Tim as permanent host; first with the new explicit Humpdate format.

It’s chock-full of gaming news goodness.

This week, Tim and co-host Edie Sellers discuss:

Enjoy.

Not a bad show. Nice work you Two..

By the way MAT3 is pretty good, I always get my Rush cravings done with that game.

I worked at an EB store awhile ago. We also kept systems in the bathrooms. Something to keep in mind that a diet of food court food creates some toilet-clogging dookie. That’s not surprising, but then the toilet floods, and all of the systems on the ground get blessed with sewage. IF YOU CAN’T TELL, you sell it anyway.

This episodes was not as good as the past humpdates, or even Commander Tim’s last humpdate appereance. It was nice to hear his honesty in reguards to the current climate of the video game industry, but his outlook made him seem like he could care less about the rest of the topics on the show. I can understand being dissapointed in current product but if Tim’s heart is not in current gen gaming, maybe he is not a good fit on the Humpdate.

Simon DI and every guest host brought unique views, knowledge, and enthusiasim to the podcast. Edie is energetic, charismatic, and professional enough to have good chemistry with all the listeners (myself included), and podcasting vets who tried out. In time, anyone one of those hosts had the potential to grow from good to great chemistry with Edie on the Humpdate as currently constructed.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved to listen to Tim on the Widget, and Commander Tim. What makes him good is when he is burnt out on gaming, he had the freedom to talk about PC building, comic books, movies, pop culture, whatever. The Humpdate is not current constructed for him to express his opinions in that manner so I have two suggestions.

One, add a third host so you both have someone to play off of. A three man booth doesn’t work in in sports, but it’s great in podcasting when you have a show Captain (Edie), and two distinct personalities (Tim, and someone like Mr. Maynard or Hazmat). The drawback is that you probably have more audio setup and editing to do with an additional voice.

Two, change the format of the Humpdate to include talk about games, movies, gear, comics, whatever. This gives Tim the freedom to be more lively on air. The drawback is that you become widget-lite instead of gamehounds, and that may alienate some listeners.

I hope not to come across like DNM, I love the show and will continue to listen and support the Gamehounds brand. I just wanted to give my opinion on the matter. I could be completely wrong and Tim just had a bad day.

I remember reading EGM sometime in 1989 and didn’t think much of it back then compared to the magazines that were published in the UK. We had a similar magazine called Computer and Video Games and that had the same look and feel to it. The thing that stopped me ever buying EGM every again was all the adverts in the mag. It seemed to be like a glorified advert with editorials and reviews added at the last moment.

Maybe in the US, the magazine industry is different to over here in the UK, where we have titles like Edge, Games, PC Format, etc.

I think the truth of the matter is that as soon that the big corporations got involved in the gaming industry, it lost its innocents and will never get it back. I do not think that things are a bleak as it sounded on the show but it must be said that gaming needs another revolution and not these ting graphical overhauls every so often.

It could be due to my age but I don’t really get that excited about new games either. The type of games that I really like are cute Japanese games, that will probably never get released in the UK. This could in fact be down to my obsession with cute cuddly teddy bears and that is coming from a pre-gaming world.

The show was fun as usual and to defend Commander Tim (not that he does need defending), I think that when something big has been removed from your world, it is hard to be enthusiastic about the subjects afterwards. Until you have been there yourself, you will not truly understand. So props to the commander for continuing, evening though he may not have sounded as interested as the listener may have wanted him to be. As Bill Hicks one said: I’m not a jukebox that you can stick a quarter up my arse and make a rrequest.

Again Edie mentions this thing about having to buy a bunch of accesories for the PS3. I don’t get it, the PS3 is the console I’ve had to purchase the least accesories for. The only thing I needed was to buy a HDMI cable, which are cheap. Its got built in harddrive on all consoles, unlike my 360 Core.

And the time you went through the stuff you had to buy for the PS3 trying to make it seem like you had to buy a whole bunch…you made the mention of an extra controller….you’d have to go back to the 70’s and 80’s to find consoles that actually shipped with two controllers. The thing about the PS3 is that you don’t need to buy Sony branded accesories, most everything is supported. I really think you are making a fool of yourself if you are trying to staple the PS3 as a console you need alot of accesories for. Lets see, since I bought my PS3 i have bought the Playstation Eye, which came with Eye of Judgment, an extra controller, and a hdmi cable. I have a ton of bluetooth headset so I don’t really count that as a PS3 accesory.

For my 360 (core, the only one available when i bought my 360), i had to buy, a harddrive, a headset, wifi adapter, component cable (which only takes you so far in the HD era), and i also additionally bought the camera thingy which i never use…piece of crap, as well as a HD-DVD addon (FUCKING WASTE). All in all the 360 was a WAAAAAY more expensive affair and i got way less for my money. I won’t say about the never thousands of itterations of the 360 how it fares in those departments with like built in Wi-Fi and stuff, but I bet you’re looking at a console thats more expensive than the cheapest PS3 which has all of the above, including HD-playback, and might I add in the Hi-Fi communities around the globe is still considered a fairly good Blu-ray player.

In my personal experience with consoles, the PS3 has to date been the console i’ve had to buy the least crap for to make it functional.

I bought the XBOX 360 20 Gig pack, whatever it was called and a second Joypad. I haven’t needed to buy anything else. I have it connected to my router via a cat 5 cable. I have it connected to my TV and projector through component and it runs at 1080p.

I didn’t have to buy anything for my Playstation 3 either. That goes through HDMI though and a cat 5 cable to the router. I would have to buy a blu tooth headset if I want to talk online and my XBOX 360 came with a suitable headset out of the box.

@dave19711998

Well then you are of the very few that actually has a TV set that handles 1080p over Component cables. Not many TV’s do that. My brand spanking new Bravia W4500 doesn’t. Its mostly very cheap tv’s that do though, and HDMI is still the far superior choice.

But as I said, the core didn’t come with it.
