The new Humpdate is here! The new Humpdate is here!

And not just a new episode; a whole new Humpdate format. This week, we have spots from Simon DI of Cyberpunks Gaming, Mr. Maynard from the Unknown Gamers of St. Louis, and Will G, our official “sports hound” for the GameHounds podcast.

Hope you like the format. Tell us what you think, what you’d like to see and how we can improve it.

I’m sorry, but I don’t like it. It’s missing the conversation.

I didn’t like the first part, in fact I’m not even too sure what it was about as I somehow lost interest early on, but didn’t rewind.

Simon’s part was ok, but then again I’ve always liked Simon on GH!

And the last part wasn’t broken up enough. Like a change from college basketball to baseball without even breathing in between! Maybe it’s the voice that didn’t change it’s pitch, but it just went on a bit..

Gamehounds is great for it’s humour and rants, not sure people on their own really works.

Did not care for it.
I like how it use to be.
Like I’m in a room with friends, and they never let me talk, and they talk and argue.
The only part that came close, was the gta bit at the start.
But this podcast, at the new format, will most likly get unsubsribed from.
The parts are not anything like, “Morning Gaming News with Cooper Hawkes!”.
Hope you fix it.
If not with you in it, get at least two people in the same room together.
Can’t wait for the real deal on saterday.

I have mixed feelings for this new format.

Always good to hear from Edie and Simon, but the new hosts really have to convince me to stay and listen. Mostly because of the voices (sorry about that)

Like Cat i miss the conversation between people.

Just ended up skipping between parts in the podcast :/

Anyway. Good first try.. There is always more humpdates to fix it :D

February 26th, 2009 at 6:40 am

Thinking about it a bit more, have you considered getting some people together and sort of have different episodes each Humpdate each lasting ten or so minutes?

Like you have Simon with the iPhone apps stuff, maybe someone else should do it with him. And then someone with whoever that guy at the end was.

And a segment dicussing news.

February 26th, 2009 at 6:43 am

Shouldn’t click submit when I’m still thinking about it!

Basically what I’m thinking:

- Edie with latest releases.
- Gaming news segment with two people.
- Sports games section with two people.
- Whatever else..

Also needs more lead in to the other parts, maybe some song or PN show or Netflix ad in between.

Thanks for the kind words, folks! I’m glad to see you all enjoyed my segment! :)

As a Gamehounds FAN, I also enjoyed the show, although I am also a huge fan of two-person interaction.

Who knows, maybe I’ll get a special guest on my segment next week to spice things up a bit.

But good job to everyone, and Will G, we should team up on NHL 3 on 3 to go against the TQcast fellas.

February 26th, 2009 at 9:44 am

Not very good Edie.

The first guy was silly. It wasn’t funny at all. I understand what he was trying to do, but on this podcast it doesn’t work. Were gamers, not clowns. Play on an XBox360 and play Halo, not ride tricicles and have a red nose that honks.

The other two were ok but I am like everyone else they need other with them, some sort of conversation. Its like their talking into a mic, not talking to us the listeners.

I almost think I can now do a podcast and do a better job than the first guy and give the other two some competitions. And thats a bad thing not a good thing.

Yeah…ummm… I will have agree with 90% of the people on here and say…NOT GOOD.

You took a great midweek humpdate show and killed it. I couldn’t even get the whole show in due to my disappointment. I guess I will just listen to the Sunday show…assuming its unchanged.

February 26th, 2009 at 11:38 am

The Sunday shows are the same, don’t worry.

As for the new format, we’ll be tweaking it some in the next few weeks. It’s a work in progress.

But keep in mind: We probably won’t be having a “conversational” show unless one of the GameHounds staff shows decided to make itself a two-man. The reason being is that we’re trying to make the Humpdate eat LESS of my life, not more. Otherwise we wouldn’t have changed the Humpdate to start with.

I pretty much agree with everyone. Everyone’s segments were good and I now own that sonic grenade app thanks to Simon. Unfortunately, it felt a little disjointed.

Personally, I feel that if you want to get your time back, you should pick two new people to do the humpdate in the old format.

Well, everyone, thanks for the constructive criticism. But in Edie’s defense, look at any news show on any given channel on any given day, and it’s the same format. The only difference being that on news shows, people say “back to you Edie,” or “thanks, Edie.”

I think this is a strong formula, given that the segments are all well thought out, entertaining and informative.

The biggest question here is;
Do you want the Humpdate to ENTERTAIN you, or to be a legitimate NEWS source? The old format contained both factors, but in the coming weeks, we will need to either put more serious and important news in the segments, or get more conversations within the segments to create an entertaining and more ear-pleasing atmosphere.

Finally, Killstar68, I would love to hear you Podcast to see what you consider a good show.

Thanks, everyone, and please keep up the feedback.

February 26th, 2009 at 2:02 pm

Edie: Yeah, I can see why you can’t do a conversational one, but the others could. If Simon has someone there, thats already a conversation.

Do you want the Humpdate to ENTERTAIN you, or to be a legitimate NEWS source?

How about I don’t mind either way, but a conversation would be nice?

Gemini Ace

February 26th, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Killstar doesn’t know what he’s talking about, Simon. You’re one of the reasons I stuck with the humpdate when it was a clean show. Don’t take all this the wrong way. People don’t respond well to change.

February 26th, 2009 at 3:04 pm

Everyone has to remember it’s the first show with the new format. Let’s give them a couple shows to tweak it out a bit. Either way I appreciate all the work you guy’s do.

February 26th, 2009 at 7:21 pm

I always love how we don’t generate comments unless we do something wrong.. :)

February 26th, 2009 at 8:30 pm

:) I dont think its wrong hawkes…its just not for me. As for the sunday show….now that tim is on there it is even better than before.

Even if I am still a little peeved about the fact that after all this time waiting for mass effect 2 info. We were robbed of your unbridled cumsplosion on last weeks ‘hounds due to the gods striking down your internet…:)

February 27th, 2009 at 3:14 am

I assure you I have bottled up my geekgasm for the show.. :)

February 27th, 2009 at 4:25 am

I still love you guys, even though I criticise. I always criticise. ;)

Alright, folks, I’ll write one more thing, and then I’ll leave this thread alone.

I cannot stress this enough; THANK YOU to those of you who appreciated having me on Gamehounds these past two shows and part of last year. You guys made it FUN AS HELL to do the show!

Unfortunately, I will not be returning!

Thank you, Edie, for giving me the honor of being on the last old-school-Humpdate and on the new one! You are, indeed, the coolest gal in Podcasting! :)

If anyone wants to hear my sexy voice, check me out at, or just follow me on Facebook or

Thanks again, everyone!

…oh, and GEMINI ACE IS THE MAN!!!!

February 27th, 2009 at 8:59 am

Not cause of these comments, surely? It’s great having you on GH. :(

February 27th, 2009 at 11:36 am

You did ask us to leave a comment about the new format.
Why ask, if you did not want to hear any.

Sorry but lets say they take the new batman movies, and they decide to put Adam West back in the role of batman.
I’m pretty sure no one would say it is the best batman ever. the new batman format is ok,

But I think most of us, seem to be saying, the new format is not for us hard core podcast listeners.

I do know it eats up your time, and I understand why you need the new format.

It’s not that you did anything wrong with the new format, it is like you said about, the original “The Day the Earth Stood Still”.
Great movie, why remake it.

So why call this the humpdate?
Call it something else, just my opinion.
Please don’t wright another story about me.

Mike from the site

February 27th, 2009 at 11:42 am

Forgot this.

Hope you are not leaving because of our comments.

Look at me, I had a bad story written about me months ago by Edie.

And I’m still here.

Sorry to see you go.

February 27th, 2009 at 12:04 pm

Frankly, having done the one guest appearance, I can hardly believe Edie has the time to do one podcast, let alone TWO a week! Maybe she does most of her sleeping in between planes? ;)

February 27th, 2009 at 1:16 pm

@ Simon
Don’t leave your one of my favorites!

February 27th, 2009 at 4:18 pm

First off, thanks for the feedback. I listened to the show and thought it was a good start, not great, but not the drizzling shits either. This is only my second time doing this and it shows, I have taken the constructive comments to heart and work to improve.

I can take the negativity because, well, it’s the internet and everything is subject to negative criticism. The only thing that gets to me are the more hateful comments about the new format, seeing as how Edie has been A) Very vocal about not having the time for two full shows, B) The fact Edie has warned the audience about the change for weeks now, and C) This is the first one and it was bound to be a little rough.

All I would ask of anyone is to give us a chance to improve and find our groove. Hell, I bet most of you, like me, found the show from GamerAndy, and gave Gamehounds, Ask a Hawkes, and Morning Gaming News a few episodes before you were fully commited or left them behind. I find myself in the same position with my 1up Podcasts that died over the last year. 1up Your, GFW Radio, and EGM Live were great shows that had changes and cancellations. New shows were born out of them. Some I stuck with, (Listen UP, Lan Party, GeekBox) some I quit on (Rebel FM). Plus you still have the flagship show on Saturdays, so all I ask is to give us the 5 episode test run before you dump the new show.

February 27th, 2009 at 5:54 pm

@WillG i will easily give you a 5 episode test run. Everything has some flaws in the beginning, and you guys can fix it (positive thoughts here people!)

I know Edie have spoken frequently the last few weeks about having no time for 2 shows a week. I understand why the new format was born.. At least we are keeping the humpdate :D

And to Simon D.I : Too bad you can’t stay on the gamehounds podcast :/

Mr Maynard

February 27th, 2009 at 6:25 pm

I would like to first say Thanks for the comments everyone. Sure some are negative, but they always come in useful. This was a BIG change. And its usually a double edge sword of goods and bads. We can always improve things like this, and it can take sometime.

I shall push on and do reviews on games. I’ll try to leave the skits when where up and running like a fine tuned car. All I ask is to hang in there everyone.. give us a little time. We’re really going to tweek it, and make it better.

Where is the conversation and fun from our beloved podcast gone???

Maj Malfunction

March 3rd, 2009 at 6:50 am

I am a Gamehounds fanboy for sure. But I could not get through the entire podcast. I turned it off partway through. I appreciate what efforts everyone involved put into the show, but it had one major flaw for me.

Its not really Gamehounds. I would just prefer to listen to the one show a week, and probably will do just that.

As for a source of news, I don’t come to Gamehounds for news. I come to hear Edie and Hawkes etc discuss the news. I read the news myself like I am sure most people who take the effort to come to the site do.

Mr. Maynard.
The Dick’s Sandwiches characters are amusing, but, its not a format I can handle for a gaming review. It just did not click for me. Personal opinion only, and I honestly enjoy you much better when you are just being yourself.

My 2 cents. I don’t want to offend anyone, just giving honest feedback.
