GameHounds Grindhouse Tonight

Hey all. If you were lucky enough to get into the Xbox Live Update Preview, we want to cordially invite you to join Edie for an evening of grindhouse mayhem on Netflix. Tonight at 8 p.m., we’ll be showing a selection from Edie’s Netflix queue — trust us when we say it’s going to be splatter-riffic!

Now, if you’re wondering what the hell we’re talking about, let us elucidate. Some weeks ago, Major Nelson announced that, in return for taking a quick survey, Xbox Live Gold members would be signed up to receive a preview of the new Xbox Live update. This update contains a number of features, not the least of which is an updated Netflix system that allows up to eight people to watch movies together.

If this is the first you’ve heard of this preview, go to Major Nelson’s blog about it, follow the directions and maybe you’ll get in at this late date. It’s worth a shot.

If you’re not sure you have the Preview, ask yourself these questions:

1. Did you sign up for it and take the survey?
2. Was your survey completed correctly (you can check to see: Read Major Nelson’s post)?
3. Did you receive an email confirmation titled “Welcom to the Xbox Live Preview on Connect!”?
4. Have you restarted your Xbox in the last 24 hours?
5. Did your system update when you restarted?
6. When you log in, do you see a tab “Xbox Preview” between your “Game Marketplace” and “My Xbox” tabs?

If you answer “no” to any of these, then you likely don’t have the Preview. Sorry. If you don’t make it, don’t worry: The update hits all of XBL-dom on August 11. This is just an early test of the GameHounds Grindhouse. If it works well, we’ll do it regularly when the new update arrives officially.

If you answered “yes” to all of the above and you’re interested in a night of movies this evening, join us. Just remember these rules in order to access the Netflix party feature:

• You need an XBLive Gold Subscription
• You need an active Netflix account
• You must have the XBL Update Preview
• You must have XBLive updated with the preview AND Netflix updated as well. This should happen automatically if you get the Preview.
• If you didn’t take the survey, you DON’T have the Preview.
