An End and a Beginning

ds1-start-finish-lineIt seems like such a simple week. Kinda slow. Right before a big holiday weekend (at least in The States).

Oh, but you are wrong. Much has been afoot for GameHounds. And there’s a lot of news to tell, both good and bad.

Let’s start with the bad — that way we can end on a high note.

As of July 7, Cooper Hawkes will no longer be part of the GameHounds staff.

Yeah. Hits us in the gut, too. But don’t worry, it’s not a drama-filled break-up a la Jen and Brad. He did not leave us for Angelina Jolie. That sexy, sexy hussy.

No really. He’s just been swamped with life and had to make some hard decisions. We wish him the best.

He will be around for one more show, so you’ll have a chance to say good-bye. Feel free to leave a voice mail (530-55-GAME-5) or an email to offer your bon voyage wishes.

Now for the good news: As of July 15, GameHounds.net will become a full-fledged, grown-up website. We will begin to offer content from a new batch of writers. Some of these will be familiar names, some will be new, but all are talented, fun, funny and informative. We’re looking to give you more of a full-bodied content experience (kinda like Angelina Jolie).

So start looking for reviews, news, and opinion pieces right here on GameHounds.net come July 15. We’re looking forward to this, and we hope you like what we’re going to be doing.

Sad to see Hawkes go. I’ve been listening to him since the Xbox360 zero hour episode of GamerAndy. He has had some great moments on the show but I understand real life comes first. Hawkes has a unique voice that is important to the online gaming community. He is a commentator that was not afraid to go against the grain and was not afraid to call out those who needed it, especially the sacred lambs like Miyamoto, or the Penny Arcade guys. Thanks Hawkes, you will be missed.

I miss you on Twitter. And now no more GH either? :(

I hope everything is ok with you and that your life will settle down again, even if that still means you won’t come back.

It’s been an absolute pleasure ‘knowing’ you and listening to you on Gamehounds ranting about something and reading your thoughts about BioWare. I’ll be happy in the knowledge that, seeing I’ve still not finished Mass Effect 2, I’ve got all the podcasts from February until now to look forward to.

Thanks and all the best to you.

It sucks that Hawkes is going, but sometimes hard choices are hard. Family, work, and life in general have to come first. I wish Hawkes all the best and more.

I hope quitting the show means you will have more time to play games, because in the end that’s what it is all about. Well, that and your wife and kid. I mean, I guess. Ah, who are we kidding. All you really need is a console and a tv, amirite?

Good luck Hawkes. We will miss you.

I’d nominate him for the title of Podcast Host/Contributor Emeritus, to formally recognize that if it be tomorrow, or ten years from now, he’s always welcome back as often or as infrequently as he wants.

I hope this means he’s now going to play Oblivion. :)

So sorry to hear that GH is going to be without Hawkes in the future. An entertaining person in the podcast-world. Ill hope that you will be back as an suprise-guest in the future, and i will look forward to that day :D Many hours of entertainment on different podcasts you have given us. Thanks Hawkes !

As for Gamehounds. I hope that the show will go on, and i am looking forward to see what is happening.

Now i have to get my original Gamhounds t-shirt to rest, and hope that you get out a new one soon (Hint, hint)

Hawkes, I hope everything is ok in your personal life, and if not, then the best of luck to you, my man!

You’ve provided a lot of people with a lot of hilarious and entertaining (and sometimes thoughtful) moments, and we’ll never forget the good times!

Good luck man!
