The Final Countdown

I blame The Little Rascals.

You remember in those old Our Gang movies when somebody would yell, “Hey, let’s have a show in the old barn,” and then, lickety-split, these kids had a full blown stage production.

It was a lie. A damn dirty lie. Because a bunch of kids could never do a stage show in an afternoon.

But it doesn’t stop a few of us from saying things like, “Hey, let’s start doing reviews and writing articles on the old website.” However, this isn’t a Hal Roach film; this is life. And that means a half month of tweaking the website, getting advice, finding people to write, assigning stories, creating calendars — not to mention that, once you get those stories, you have about a dozen hours of copy editing, securing of art assets, and formatting.

Let’s have a show, indeed.

So that’s been life at GameHounds the last few days. Twenty-four hours from now, we’ll be launching new content, and while it looks like Spanky and Alfalfa just made it all happen with rubber bands, wash tubs and a mule, it’s actually a hell of a lot more work going on backstage.

But looking over the stories we already have — reviews of a host of games and services, commentary on upcoming gaming systems, and thoughts on gaming news — it’s going to be a “gee-whiz” moment. With very little, we’ve put together some really special writers from all different perspectives. We have hard-core gamers, mature gamers, casual indy gamers — and some very fun and funny people. It’s folly to say that we’ll be all things to everyone, but from what we have in store for you, you won’t be bored by what we have to say and how we say it.

We hope you like what’s in store. We’re not really quite sure what’s going to happen. Maybe the mule will kick over the candles and light the curtain on fire. There’s really no way to know until the show begins. No matter what, we’re all looking forward to it.
