This is the second episode row you’ve mentioned Microsoft “holding your game saves and DLC hostage,” and I’m still not sure I understand what you mean. Are you suggesting that discontinuing your Xbox Live Gold account would result in your game saves and purchased DLC somehow becoming inaccessible to you? I’m sure that’s not what you mean, since I’m positive you know even Silver members can download game content, movies, and XBLA games and, of course they can save their games. So, what is that reference about?

In my case, yes.
I have two accounts. One I used a while ago for my gamesaves for Mass Effect and other games. It is also the account I used to purchase a megaton of Rock Band tracks. I have another account that has my more recent gamesaves. In many ways, it’s my fault for creating two accounts, but in my case, that means if I want to opt out of my old XBL sub, I would lose my gamesaves for ME and my RB DLC.
So yeah, my account is kinda being held as blackmail to make me keep resubbing for two accounts.

Yeah, I’m still confused by that. You’ll still have all your DLC and gamesaves. That accound doesn’t go away, it just becomes Silver. You may not be able to use them online, since you won’t have online access any longer–but that’s what canceling Xbox Live Gold is: canceling your online gaming.
