PS Vita Wi-Fi Top Selling Gaming Item in Amazon Right Now

In: Articles by Edie Sellers

That didn’t take long.

We were kind of curious, now that E3 is firmly underway and rounding the home stretch, what items or games consumers had responded to.

And consumers are saying they want the PS Vita. The $249 wi-fi version shot immediately to the number-one slot of Amazon’s best sellers in the video-game category — just above Mass Effect 3 Collector’s Edition for the Xbox 360 and despite many questions remaining unanswered about the portable device’s capabilities and specs.

It seems that consumers have also spoken about the $299 3G version: Not so much love. As of this article, it sits in sixth place, just below Just Dance 2 for the Wii.

The comparative appeal for the wi-fi model could be due to one of many reasons. Perhaps it’s the impending 4G revolution, perhaps it’s the contract with AT&T to use that soon-to-be-outdated 3G network.

Or perhaps it’s because it’s $50 cheaper.

Like the number of licks to get the center of a Tootsie Roll — the world may never know.

I would guess that that a lot of people are like me and don’t want to pay for a 3G limited Data Plan just to play our portable game system over a 3G network that is crappy at best for gaming. Gamers aren’t dumb. :)

There’s just no reason for most people to need that 3g network. The most practical application of having 3g on that device would be for multiplayer which I don’t think most people are going to need on the go.
