Episode 170: Sex. Pun Intended.

In: Podcasts by Edie Sellers

7 Feb 2012

In the spirit of St. Valentine’s Day, we’re bringing you a heart shaped GameHounds episode.

This week, the kids of GH — Holy Goalie, Nick Dinicola, and Edie Sellers — chat up the old beast with two backs. Or more specifically, they discuss sex and games. Is it necessary? Has it ever been too much? Has it ever been not enough?

It’s up to you to decide, because, baby, we’re talkin’ about YOUR games. Let’s just call this Talkin’ Games Doggie Style.

Yeah, you knew that joke was coming, didn’t you?

Just had to let you know that you guys are in my top three must listen to podcasts. And if the other two are in my queue, I listen to yours first. Your mix of personality, wit, humor and just this side of rated R content leaves me wanting more each time the closing music starts (thank God for the “rumor mill”–keep that up!).

Okay, now for the real reason I’m writing. Like you three, I love my single player games (PC, XBox, PS3, and iOS). And I know you guys are not typically MMO players. But because you are complaining soooo much about not having anything to play right now, I strongly recommend you try SWTOR just for a month (swtor.com). I think you would be hooked. The 8 unique storylines are well written with a very Mass Effect/Dragon Age style. And everything, I mean everything, is voice acted. Sure some quests are shared, but that makes the pickup groups of 2-4 players that much better. Sith Warriors, Inquisitors, Bounty Hunters, and Imperial Agents can all do group content together. But the storyline quests are unique and truly engaging. I know, I know, you guys only play console games. Well, during this dry season put down your controllers, pick up your mouses, and taste the most cutting edge MMO out there. You won’t be disappointed.

Goalie, I love the way you just approach the edge of impropriety with Eddie (that Santa joke a few episodes back had me ROFLMAO–and my wife too). Eddie, I love the way you’re such a good sport with all the ribbing you get from Goalie. And your mastery of the podcast medium is a joy to listen to. Nick, this episode’s “bawn chikka waa waa” improv with Goalie was classic. Good luck on staying innocent much longer. Love you guys!

Hey Allan this just made my day.

I’ve been stressing about my trip to the west coast, and all the things I needed to take care of before I leave, and reading this just brightened the day.

I think yout hit the show on the head. And I think it’s what we try to do each week. It’s always fun to throw something out there, and see how people interpret it. ie the Santa joke.

It took me a few episodes of Family Guy to “get it”, now I love that show. I think Gamehounds is the same way.

As far as the Star Wars MMO, I’m more of the original movies type of guy, so I’m not sure if I would like a universe based around the newer movies. But I may give it a try once I’m finished with Skyrim, whenever that may be.

We’re also taking bets, who tries to kiss me first when I get to the West Coast, Edie or Nick ?

It’ll be Nick.

SWTOR isn’t based on the new movies. If anything, it’s much more a of a multiplayer sequel to KOTOR.

Speaking of sex in video games, I picked up The Darkness 2 and there’s some shit in there that would have made our friend Jack flip his fucking lid. There’s a chapter that takes place in a brothel and, while they don’t show any naught bits (just heaps of cleavage), you do see some sexy times taking place. I mention this because I looked, took in the scenes and went on before doing a mental double take and going back. Am I jaded or is it an indicator of where games are as a medium that I didn’t even bat an eye?

February 9th, 2012 at 1:36 pm

Yeah, exactly. Now I’m just waiting for developers to stop being wimps and if they’re going to show a strip club or a brothel let the strippers or whores have their naughty bits showing.

Imagine if film did the same thing… every time you had a strip club you’d see girls with stars on their nipples. Would The Sopranos be the same if Bada Bing had been sanitized like video games?

Anyway, yeah, the fact you didn’t hardly notice the stuff going on in the background of Darkness 2 is actually, I think, healthy. It means that slowly… sloooooooooowly… games are evolving into a fully formed art medium instead of slaving under the historic yoke of “kid’s stuff.”

I was actually going to recommend getting/reviewing/playing Gotham City Impostors. Sounds like a fun multiplayer shooter, from the reviews I’ve read.

How about you guys cheer the hell up, in about 3 out of the last 4 episodes there’s been nothing but bitching and complaining going on.
This was one of my most anticipated shows every week but now i’m struggling to get through them.
Also netflix is not in every country so a little less of that please.

February 13th, 2012 at 12:10 pm

The next show is very different. And really, have we been whining again? Sorry. I guess it’s that time of the year.

And Netflix *is* coming your way. And it’s officially banned from GH for the foreseeable future since Goalie went Netflix crazy.

February 13th, 2012 at 12:21 pm

Ha! I gotta watch that! Thanks.

Ugh… ooookay. But you gotta convince Goalie. He’s like trying to turn the Titanic and we gotta get him off Skyrim.

Haven’t you learned from the whole Arkham City thing? That won’t be pretty.
