9 Jun 2009When you’re a toddler, there’s nobody bigger than your dad. He towers above you, glowers in a scary way when he’s angry, but he can pick you up and toss you so high you feel like Superman. To you, he is immortal. To you, he is infallible. To you, he is the greatest human being [...]

I’m not an engineer.
Oh, I’m a tech head as much as the next guy, but I do not have strong electronics skills, nor do I possess the time to build a special coupling that allows me to hook up a Wii to my PC for the purposes of backing the files on the built in memory board.
What I have is an understanding of technology and imagination, and it is armed with these very lethal weapons that I write this article.
I had been chatting with Bert, a long time listener with whom I’ve developed a personal relationship. We had started talking about when the next generation of consoles would come out and threw around ideas of what type of system they would be. We both realized that without some major changes in the hardware, piracy would still be a major concern for console makers and software developers.
The average gamer bemoans any DRM. They beg, plead, and cry to publishers how it’s not fair to consumers to have to deal with bloat in order to play a game. Some developers have introduced the finger to these cry-babies, others have listened and complied.
Perhaps they should have used the finger.

3 Jan 2009“Another day older, deeper in debt.”
No longer a lyric to a song but a mantra I use on a daily basis both as a father and a gamer. This year, especially, was strong with wallet-crushing games beating us left and right like Muhammad Ali in his prime. Like 2007, I doubt I’ll ever really catch [...]

2 Dec 2008Two weeks ago I was not a Netflix subscriber.
In fact, I’ve taken it as a badge of honor that I have not become like all those soccer moms looking to anesthetize their hyperactive kids in the back of a minivan or all those 40-somethings looking to anesthetize themselves at the end of a long day.
I [...]

25 Nov 2008Thanks to the generosity of listener ErwinEnFire, I have received a 40GB PlayStation 3 as of few weeks ago.
Honestly, it’s one of those strange moments in my life. I appreciate the gift, but it’s just not something I’m used to. The fact that someone wants to offer me their old PS3 is just so [...]

24 Nov 2008I was a PC gamer.
I’m pretty sure most of us were or still are. It’s the easiest starting point since most households now have a PC as standard equipment. No matter the game you started with, I’ll guarantee you that it was a PC that was point zero towards your collective gaming addiction.
I could [...]

30 Oct 2008From Gamespot’s review of Fallout 3:
It’s a shame, in light of these impressive design elements, that the PlayStation 3 version is shockingly inferior to the others from a technical perspective. Although the Xbox 360 and PC versions display the occasional visual oddity and bland texture, these nitpicks are easy to overlook. Sadly, the jagged edges, [...]

27 Oct 2008WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Fable 2 and Bioshock. If you have not at least progressed to the adult years in Fable 2 or met Andrew Ryan in Bioshock, I would avoid reading this editorial for the moment.
Last warning!…
