26 Aug 2011Before the demo starts, Steve Gibson of Gearbox reassures all of us in the room that Borderlands 2 isn’t just a quick, cash-in sequel; and the fact that it’s not coming out until “fiscal year 2013” certainly supports that claim. After watching the demo, I’m fully convinced: Gearbox is keeping what works while changing what’s familiar, adding more, all the while never breaking the unique character Borderlands is known for.

26 Aug 2011For those of us who have played the Battlefield franchise over the years, we have certain expectations of each new game that is released. Ever since Battlefield 1941 I’ve craved to play online with friends and huge groups of people. I even went so far as to create a LAN party with ethernet cables running outside barracks rooms and under doors so everyone in my dorm could play, even without a “real” internet connection. Coming to PAX this year, my expectations were exceptionally high for Battlefield 3. Little did I know of the experience I was about to have. Read the rest of this entry »

25 Aug 2011Alex Mercer just won’t die. At least that’s what I took away from an introductory video shown before a demo of Prototype 2 at a pre-PAX Activision event. In the video, the military group Blackwatch explains its with Mercer, basically that it thought him dead twice and wa proven wrong both times. So perhaps it’s a good thing it doesn’t have to worry about him in Prototype 2, at least not in the parts of the game that were shown. Instead it has to deal with James Heller, a man whose family was killed in the initial virus outbreak and now wants revenge. And, of course, he’s got all the same powers as Mercer did. While it’s still a good many months away (releasing in April 2012), it’s already clear that this sequel doesn’t seek to reinvent the franchise but iterate on it in all the right ways.

26 Jul 2011Hey, we got a full house this week.
After a week with only two of three hosts, it’s nice to have everyone back in their assigned seats and ready for some book-learnin’.
Nick Dinicola, Holy Goalie and Edie Sellers are thwarted slightly by the lack of gaming news, so this show has that lazy summer feel. They do end up finding a suprising amount to chat up, though, including:
Enjoy.

I know, we haven’t been posting stories in the last couple weeks. As of 3 a.m. the plan was to get some well-earned sleep, wake up, walk the dog, and then start writing and posting.
That was the plan until we woke up and heard about two separate terror attacks in our favorite country not our own, Norway.
For those of you just tuning in, . So far, 17 people 92 people are confirmed dead in both incidents.
And yes, they are probably related.
So now our first post is for our Norwegian readers — of which there are, reportedly, several.
If you live in the area of Utøya or Eastern Norway, officials are reportedly asking people with bloodtype O to donate to the local blood banks. As it’s the “universal bloodtype,” Type O is a lifesaver in times of disaster.
Please, if you have Type O blood and you’re near enough to a blood-donation center, take your badass Tigerblood to your local blood donation center and give a pint. You will save a life with your super-awesome bulletproof blood of awesomeness, and you’ll probably be rewarded with orange juice and cookies — which lets face it, is exactly what Charlie Sheen was consuming when he got all wizardy famous.
But then again, this is Norway — it’s probably Solo and rakfisk.
Which I hear can make you see God.
